The European Rail Supply Industry Association (UNIFE), ALLRAIL and the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EU Body Europe’s Rail on Wednesday for a new study on the development of smart and affordable high-speed services on the continent.

The stakeholders aim to chart which benefits new high-speed connections between European capitols would have. The analysis also strives to make clear which investments are required and when they should me made.

Additionally, UNIFE and the other associations will attempt to demonstrate how creating an expansive high-speed network can complement the shift to rail envisioned in the 2050 Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. The study will also detail how the rail network can advance the ongoing efforts related to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

“High-speed rail has an essential role to play in the decarbonisation and digital transformation of the entire European transport system”, UNIFE director general Philippe Citroën said in comments on the MoU.

“I see a central role for rail in our future sustainable transport system, but rail must also fulfil its part in becoming a more attractive choice by getting more efficient, cost-effective and innovative”, Walter Goetz, head of cabinet of European Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean added. “Development of high-speed rail can certainly help us to get more people to consider rail as their means of transport and as their place of work.”

The first results of the study will presented by year-end.

Costs, shall be reduced, by added quality, all the way! (“Expansive”, shall not allow Industry to cement railways, at a risky, “state of the art”!)
Any costly, old technicality, plaguing clients – and Industry, now decisively shall be outed.
Capacity and utilisation of assets shall be doubled, by upgrading of infrastructure, basics of rail ways worth Name, etc.
A New Old Railway, shall be paved for, by an upgraded track, soundly and safely stabile in x-, y- and z- direction, etc.!
