Work at Huesca station Adif

Adif is accelerating the renovation and comprehensive enhancement of the Zaragoza-Huesca-Canfranc line by tendering a contract for the implementation of new signalling and telecommunication facilities along the Ayerbe-Canfranc stretch, entailing an investment of 38.4 million euros.

The project will involve the installation of electronic interlockings at stations, block systems, track circuits, train protection equipment, LED-based light signalling, electric drives for switch motors, and state-of-the-art axle counters.

Also, the GSM-R radio system will be implemented, and remote control of the new interlockings and electronic blocks will be integrated into the Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) system.

Over 183 million euros

The renewal of the Zaragoza-Huesca-Canfranc line has seen a mobilisation of 183.4 million euros so far, directed towards new traffic management facilities and track renewal covering 119 kilometres along the Ayerbe-Caldearenas and Jaca-Canfranc sections which are still underway, as well as the completed Plasencia-Ayerbe segment.

This line is important infrastructure promoting rail transport between Zaragoza and Huesca with the Aragonese Pyrenees, as well as France. These initiatives also align with studies conducted by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility for implementing standard gauge on the Huesca-Canfranc section, all within the framework of activities aimed at reopening the Zaragoza-Canfranc-Pau line.

Track renewal on the Plasencia-Ayerbe, Ayerbe-Caldearenas, and Jaca-Canfranc sections benefits from European funding through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU initiative.
