Source: SBB

Every year SBB spends 10 million Swiss Francs (around 9 million Euros) for the maintenance of vacuum toilet systems in its passenger trains. All the train toilets are cleaned once a day and checked several times a day.

SBB has also invested 18 million Francs (around 16 million Euros) in retrofitting of disposal systems and toilets in the trains between 2009 and 2018. The toilets in the IC2000 and ICN fleet have been upgraded with adhesive pictures. Moreover, the company has equipped most of the train toilets with fragrance neutralizers.

Cleaning staff

Besides the train toilets, SBB serves the station lavatories. The company’s staff regularly clean 3,052 square metres of the toilet areas. The SBB cleaning personnel amounts around 1,000 employees deterging the trains every day. Currently, the rail operator considers a new solution to improve its cleaning service.
