Salvage work in the Gotthard Base Tunnel to last till the end of September

The Swiss Gotthard Base Tunnel was closed following the derailment of freight carriages on 10 August 2023 which caused extensive damage to the infrastructure. It was then partially reopened to rail traffic at midnight on 22 August 2023. According to SBB, the last of the damaged wagons will be removed from the tunnel by the end of the month.
