Transmashholding to produce 3,730 passenger cars for Russian Railways

Transmashholding has concluded a deal for the delivery of 3,730 passenger cars to Federal Passenger Company, subsidiary of Russian Railways. The coaches will be produced by Tver Carriage Works (TVZ), part of Transmashholding, and delivered in 2019-2025.

The deal consists of the firm order for 2,644 cars and an option for 1,086 cars. The total price of the delivery is 237 billion Rubles (without VAT) or 3.15 billion Euros. “The contract is of extreme importance for both Tver Carriage Work and the entire transport engineering industry. It will not only ensure the capacity utilisation of the plant but will also create conditions for the peaceful and steady development of the domestic passenger wagon industry in the coming years”, the CEO of TVZ Andrey Solovey said.

New wagon types

The agreement between TVZ and Federal Passenger Company provides the design, development, production and certification of the new types of passenger coaches. TVZ will produce three new types designated as ‘Wagon-2019’, ‘Wagon-2020’ and ‘Wagon-2023’. The supply includes various modifications of the single-decker passenger cars: sleeping coaches, dining cars, open wagons with seats, etc. Currently, TVZ’s portfolio of passenger coaches consists of 14 types. The company is also developing a new type of passenger double-decker car to enter service in 2020.
