Captrain Italia and Railpool ink sale and leaseback agreement

Captrain Italia and Railpool, have inked a significant deal strengthening their collaboration in Italy, on February 29, 2024. Captrain will transfer ownership of its 13 Alstom Traxx DC3 locomotives, equipped with Last Mile module technology, to Railpool. Subsequently, Railpool will lease these locomotives back to Captrain under a long-term arrangement, enhancing Captrain’s fleet strategy.

The sale and leaseback agreement will streamline Captain’s fleet management and aligns with Captrain’s goal of embracing new technologies like Last Mile and preparing for the imminent ERTMS implementation. Upon full implementation, Captrain will operate a homogeneous fleet of 32 locomotives managed by Railpool.

Mauro Pessano, CEO of Captrain Italy, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “The collaboration with Railpool propels us forward in our fleet modernization journey. With nearly completed renewal, our customers can expect best-in-class locomotives that deliver optimal performance and reliability, coupled with the versatility of Last Mile and readiness for ERTMS.”

Alberto Lacchini, General Manager of Railpool Italia, emphasised the company’s dedication to the Italian market, remarking, “This agreement underscores Railpool’s unwavering commitment to Italy, solidifying our position as the premier provider of Alstom Traxx DC3 Last Mile locomotives in the region.”
