During the Holidays, a wide-ranging programme of works are undertaken in and around Manchester. The UK government’s infrastructure agency Network Rail is continuing a programme of upgrades, improving capacity and relieving bottlenecks. The work is independent of the disappointing news in the recently published review, which cancelled many capital projects, including the provision of a dedicated high-speed line connecting the region’s major cities.
