Reviewing 2023 reveals a year of ups and downs. Downest of them all was probably the ditching of the Manchester leg of the HS2 project, writes UK Correspondent Simon Walton. It was the ultimate slap in the face for the north of England. The government (conveniently based in the south of England) made the gaffe to end all gaffes, by announcing the cutback at a political conference in Manchester.

Yes, a pity it is and so far Brexit has made no difference…
Regardless if in or out of “Union”, however Nearness shall remain Goal!
(In that respect those to be blamed is crystal clear…)
As for England and Scotland, nearness to ports is Advantage, documented by success stories globally, thus top priority, etc.
Fact that “railways has missed the train” is bad, but advantage of ports – and of Brexit – shall not be missed!
