Britain’s troubled but impressive high-speed rail engineering project, HS2, has crossed paths with the Grand Union Canal. The twenty-first-century railway project has been mired in controversy, and now it has met with an infrastructure project every bit as innovative, and also just as controversial in its day, three hundred years ago.
