Automatic speed cameras at 40 Dutch railway crossings

Busy and dangerous level crossings are already monitored with cameras, but now speed cameras are being added in several places to record violations. Jeroen Baldwin

To catch road users barely crossing a railway crossing when the red light is already flashing and barriers are lowering, the Dutch infrastructure manager ProRail will install speed cameras. These automatically detect whether someone commits a violation, after which someone can expect a fine on their doorstep. The railway manager wants to install the camera at about forty level crossings. Since today, speed cameras have been in use at a busy railway crossing in Bunnik.
