Infrabel wants to attract 1,400 new employees with recruitment campaign

Infrabel wants to recruit 1,400 new employees in the next two years. The Belgian rail operator launched a major recruitment campaign. According to the railway company, new people are badly needed, because many employees will reach retirement age: about 1 in 4 employees will retire in the next ten years. Especially women are encouraged to apply.

The railway manager has already recruited 1,156 new employees between 1 January 2017 and 30 June 2018 by investing heavily in recruitment campaigns, but many more people are needed. At the end of this year, Infrabel hopes to have some 500 to 600 new employees.

Diversity

Infrabel is particularly looking for female staff. “In spite of the small number of graduates in the technical field, Infrabel wants to adopt women, preferably, in the coming years. This allows the company to enjoy greater diversity and thus also reflects the reality of our society,” Infrabel said.

At the moment about 10 per cent of the staff is female. At management level, this percentage is slightly above 20 per cent. “Everyone is welcome at Infrabel. Infrabel recruits women and men of all origins, all ages and all levels. ”

People with a technical background such as electricians and engineers are also in demand. The railway manager emphasizes that many people will also be trained by Infrabel, such as the staff who control and control train traffic from the various signal boxes.

Infrabel Academy

The Belgian education system has no specialized direction railway technology. The infrastructure manager therefore┬átrains employees itself. At the moment the locations are distributed throughout the country, but by the end of 2020, they will be centralized in a training centre called ‘Infrabel Academy’, located in Molenbeek. At the Academy the new and current staff are trained.

Infrabel uses the fact that one can often work close to home as an asset to attract new employees. Employees who are deployed in the maintenance and modernisation of the infrastructure start from Logistics Infrastructure Centers (LCI). Infrabel has 22 such LCIs spread across the country.
