ProRail announces selection of 12 companies for accelerated rollout of ERTMS

ProRail is entering into an “innovation partnership” with twelve companies to accelerate the implementation of ERTMS. This was announced on the second day of RailTech Europe Live. In July 2020, ProRail started the ASAP ERTMS tender.

ProRail asked companies to come up with solutions to speed up the implementation of the train protection system ERTMS. Three quarters of a year after the successful kick-off meeting, ProRail has selected twelve companies that will develop a business case as ProRail’s innovation partner.

These are partnerships with Rail Connected, Heijmans Infra, Allinq Group, BAM Infra Rail, VRS Railway Industry, Tizzin, Movares, GeoNext, VolkerRail, Strukton Rail, Pilz and Delta Pi. Due to the elaboration of the business cases, ProRail reports that it can only publish the names, but indicates that it concerns a “colorful collection of ideas” varying from “robotisation to smart housings”.

Business case

The selected companies will pitch their ideas to the assessors of ProRail in July. Once the business case has been accepted, a test phase and a commercial phase follow. In this, ProRail examines which innovations are eligible for actual deployment.

RailTech Europe will take place on three different stages from 30 to 1 April. The rail event can be attended via the network platform of RailTech Europe. You can register for free with the following code: RailTechEurope2021.
