It’s the ‘bustitution’ of all time. Passengers on the platform for the next train on the Marston Vale Line might want to take a seat. They have another six months to wait. Buses will substitute for actual trains until Autumn of this year (2023). The Marston Vale Line, a surviving segment of the former ‘varsity Line’ between Oxford and Cambridge, has faced significant challenges due to the closure of the company that supplied the trains exclusively used on this line. As a result, a rail replacement bus service has been in operation between Bedford and Bletchley since December 2022. The line will eventually become part of the new ‘East West Rail’ project, which will establish a new direct link between the university cities for the first time since 1968.
