First edition of RailTech Belgium kicks off
The first edition of RailTech Belgium has kicked off! Hundreds of international rail professionals are gathering today to discuss the latest rail industry developments and innovations, at the conference and exhibition in Brussels.
Why is Belgium the right location for an international rail conference? In Belgian Minister of Mobility Georges Gilkinet’s words, “because it’s the capital of Europe, and because the federal government has very big and positive intentions for the trains and tracks. We want to make the train the backbone of the future mobility.”
In a video interview he welcomed the attendees of the RailTech Belgium conference, talking about his plans and vision for rail in 2040. International cooperation, improving operational excellence at SNCB, the status of ERTMS deployment in Europe and Belgium, the need for modularity in signalling, and the challenges of rolling stock owners are just some of the topics discussed so far.

The Belgian port’s rail infrastructure, and how to increase capacity to move more goods is the central theme during the afternoon session of the conference.
Meanwhile at the exhibition floor, companies from across the rail sector were ready to welcome hundreds of visitors from Belgium and abroad to showcase their products and innovations. At the workshop area, knowledge sessions ranging from Automatic Train Operation to data in rail and night trains are being held.
