DSB attributes commuter increase to youth passengers
Commuters are flocking to DSB trains in record numbers, with sales of all commuter products for DSB trains in the first three months of this year surpassing levels seen in the same period in 2019 by 5 per cent and 9 per cent over last year’s figures. A significant portion of these passengers are young commuters.
“It is very satisfying to see an increase in regular customers on our trains. This underscores that we have a compelling offer for those who travel daily. We have seen a general growth in the number of customers and strong sales of our popular Orange tickets for some time. With the growth in sales of commuter products, we can especially see an increase in students on the trains,” said Jens Visholm, DSB’s commercial director.
There has been a substantial increase, particularly in commuter cards for students. Sales of Youth Cards for secondary education (UU-cards) have risen by 42 per cent in the first three months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2019, and there has been a 16 per cent increase compared to 2023, resulting in around 118,000 young people taking to the trains.
Similarly, there has been a notable increase in the number of Youth Cards for higher education (VU-cards), which are up 10 per cent from 2019 and a significant 13 per cent higher than the number of cards sold in the same period in 2023.
“The period has left its mark on many lives and has changed a lot for young people in education and the workforce. We can certainly observe that more people need to travel to their educational institutions now – even compared to the period before the pandemic sent young people home,” said Jens Visholm.
