Interview Johannes Neuhold, TU Graz

‘Digitalisation is challenging but crucial for the railway sector’

“Digitalisation is a very challenging topic for the railway sector, but I think it can ultimately revolutionise the sector,” Johannes Neuhold from the Graz University of Technology argues. “The key point is to take the crucial information out of the data.”

Neuhold thinks that it is vital to discuss any steps taken towards digitalisation in the railway sector. “We as a sector have to make sure that any developments are discussed on an international platform. This is the only way to improve the sector as a whole and to use all the fantastic tools provided by the age of digitalisation.”

Intelligent Rail Summit

Neuhold is programme manager for the Intelligent Rail Summit 2018. At the Summit, the measurement, analyses, storage and application of data within railway infrastructures will be covered. “On the first day of the conference, we will cover topics such as big data in railways, infrastructure measuring, Wayside Train Monitoring Systems (WTMS) and innovative data analysis,” Neuhold says.

“On the second day, we will discuss storing, collecting and analysing the data. We will also cover the topic of condition evaluation, and in the end, we will see what we can learn from other transport modes, such as the aircraft industry. That is an important topic.”

The conference takes place on 27-29 November in Malmö, Sweden. Click here to view the programme.
