What happened on Friday 6 May 1994? Cult dance track “The Real Thing” by Tony di Bart topped the UK charts. In France, the charts were also topped by a one-hit wonder: Bruce Springsteen. Of somewhat greater importance, a man called Nelson Mandela officially became president of South Africa, and on the Côte d’Azur, a little-known independent film director was preparing to premiere his first big-budget movie – Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino.
