Rivelin Rail is a tech start-up in a leafy suburb of Sheffield, England. Engineers there are working on a sticky problem for rail operators around the world: friction technology. The firm specialises in the precise measurement and management of rail contact point friction and adhesion. Rivelin Rail is on the brink of delivering a step-change technology. The company has developed a portable rail tribometer, which has the potential to revolutionise friction management strategies across the worldwide railway industry.

Currently, at “voids” and hung sleepers, at detoriating tracks, where the by far most effective damper (macadam at ballast) not is in contact with sleeper, nor any own damping is present at low hysteresis prestressed concrete sleepers, regrettably vibrations, now seriously reduce braking capacity, and safety, etc., etc.
(Noise, energy radiated, and reactive, decisively now covered up…, tell about energy consumed, by vibrations at the otherwise environmentally most friendly transport device.)
