UK strikes kick cup final into touch
The UK rail dispute has flared up once again. Rail unions have called a series of strikes for May and June. The largest union in the dispute, the RMT, will launch strike action across 14 passenger train operators on Saturday 13 May, after rejecting the latest offer from the Rail Delivery Group, the representative body for the employers. ASLEF, the union representing train drivers, has rejected a pay offer from the 16 passenger train companies with whom they are in dispute. The drivers’ union has called for strike action on three days: Friday 12 May, Wednesday 31 May, and Saturday 3 June. The British media has been quick to pick up on the first two strike dates – which coincide with the famous Epsom Derby horserace, and the FA Cup Final.
