GreenCityTrip welcomed over 100,000 night train passengers in first year
Dutch night train initiative GreenCityTrip on Monday looked back on its first year of operations, offering all-inclusive five-day trips to different European cities from the Netherlands. It closed the first 12 months with more than 100,000 passengers to 16 destinations. The company promises more destination and better prices in the future.
“We prove that it is possible to offer sustainable citytrips against good prices. And we prove that it is possible to get passengers out of the plane”, Maarten Bastian and Hessel Winkelman, CEO and COO, respectively, said about the first 12 months of operations. GreenCityTrip operated more than 150 night trains, which saved a total of 43,5 million kilogram of CO2. The GreenCityTrip train consists of 14 carriages. After arriving at its destination, the train waits for the passengers, who sleep two nights in a hotel before travelling back to the Netherlands again in the sleeper train.
GreenCityTrip recently added Budapest, Hungary, to its list of destinations. That list is set to be expanded this coming winter with the arrival of the TUI Ski Express. This sleeper service in cooperation with the tourism company will depart from Amsterdam and serve ski resorts in Austria. “We strive for further expansion, more passengers and better prices”, Bastian and Winkelman conclude.
