Europe’s Rail issues this year’s first call for proposals to advance railway technology
Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking has issued a call for proposals for Research and innovation activities as part of Europe’s Rail annual work plan and budget. Some 390 million euros worth of projects is expected to funded, for which a sum of 234 million is available.
The call for proposals is intended to facilitate further innovation in such areas as network management, automation and digitalisation, network resilience and sustainability. This, then, should accelerate the railway transportation sector’s contribution to the European Green Deal and initiatives such as the Fit for 55 Package.
“I am looking forward to receiving applications from a variety of entities eligible under Horizon Europe, ensuring that we have an open and inclusive programme, bringing together the research community, SMEs, operators, infrastructure managers and suppliers”, Carlo Borghini, Executive Director at Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking, said of the call. Horizon Europe is the EU’s 95,5-billion-euro funding programme for research and innovation.
Companies have until June 23 to submit their applications. They can request clarifications until June 9. A second call for proposals will be issued in the second half of this year. The upcoming round will concern exploratory research and other activities.
