Siemens Mobility this week inaugurated its revamped Rail Service Center in Novara, Italy. The site, sandwiched between Milan and Turin, is now a candidate to become one of Siemens’ so-called world centers of excellence for the maintenance of rolling stock.

The Italian Rail Service Center was expanded following an investment of around 6 million euros and now covers an area of 2,300 square metres. Outside, there is an additional area of 6,300 square metres of space. The site boasts 6 tracks and 10 workstations for maintenance.

The centre also offers the tools for preventive and corrective maintenance. Using the cloud-based rail asset management solution Railigent X, operators and technicians alike can gain insights into the performance of assets in order to optimise maintenance, among other benefits.

Following the upgrades, the Rail Service Center in Novara is now on track to joining an elite group of (currently) thirteen world centers of excellence managed by Siemens Mobility. If successful, it would become only the second-such centre in Europe after the Siemens factory site in Allach, Germany.
