UK shows limited interest in latest wave of strike action

The deserted concourse of Dundee Station Rail Delivery Group

It may have passed almost unnoticed, but Great Britain just came through another round of strike action on the railways. The unions representing the largest majority of railway professionals, RMT and ASLEF, have either walked out or banned overtime for two days in the past week, with more to follow later in July and August. The action was part of the unresolved dispute over pay, conditions and job security, which has been unresolved for over a year. However, far from making the headlines, the action received hardly a line of comment in the national news bulletins. There is a feeling of acceptance among the travelling public, and the disputes are being met with decreasing interest from a battle-hardened public, who are simply becoming accustomed to making their travel arrangements, avoiding strike days.
