Lumo lunge through Peterborough could have been disastrous says watchdog
The UK safety watchdog, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch, has released a scathing report into a train overspeeding at Spital Junction, just north of Peterborough station, just over a year ago. The report also notes a similar incident at the site just over a month ago. Neither incident resulted in derailment, but both have been criticised as coming near to disaster for the very rare primary reason of overspeeding.

Let’s not forget the November 2016 incident, when a tram operated by (London) Tramlink derailed and overturned on a sharp bend approaching a junction. Of a total 69 passengers, there were seven fatalities and 62 injured, 19 of whom sustained serious injuries.
The drivers should be sacked immediately.
The junction indicator is basic to anyone who knows the railways.
The fact they ignored the signal is gross negligence and nothing to do with lack of training.
Sack them. The drivers are incompetent.
The signal is dangerous. The diverging signal is too far away from the junction for a safe release from red / yellow.
A properly designed junction should have the signal installed just before the junction, such that the train can safely pass on a diverging route on yellow.
