Hitachi Rail bags contract for on-board signalling systems in Norway and Sweden
Hitachi Rail announced a contract for on-board signalling systems based on ERTMS technology and STM-ATC2 with Tågåkeriet I Bergslagen on Thursday. The deal includes the entire proces from design to commissioning.
The trains operated by Tågåkeriet I Bergslagen, a company that moves both passengers and freight, run in Sweden and Norway. It has a fleet of 35 locomotives and a number of coaches and freight wagons. The operator is also known as Tågab.
“Once equipped with the interoperable systems, the new trains operated by Tågab will run seamlessly on mixed traffic lines across Scandinavia, from Sweden to Norway without interruption”, Hitachi Rail writes.
Tågab is targeting increased operational efficiency and, thus, a reduction in overal energy consumption. Other added benefits of the technology concern the availability of vehicles and the potential of less traffic disruptions.
