Cargounit expands fleet Vectron MS and Smartron locomotives

Polish locomotive leasing company Cargounit has taken delivery of two Vectron MS locomotives from Siemens Mobility. In addition, the company will purchase a Smartron locomotive for the Romanian market.

The order placed with Siemens Mobility is the first of two by Cargounit for the new Smartron, which are scheduled for delivery in 2022. The total number of orders for the Vectron MS currently stands at 16, with another 20 vehicles under option in the coming two years.

“The Smartron locomotive is adapted to work with alternating current 15 kV/25 kV and is equipped with the PZB/LZB train control system. The locomotive is produced in the standard Capri Blue color and is ordered through a special purchasing platform, as when shopping online, which fits in with the festive mood”, CEO of Siemens Mobility Sp. Krzysztof Celiński said in the days leading up to Christmas.

Growing demand

While the Smartron is intended for use in Romania, it has also been approved for Germany and Bulgaria. The new Vectron MS locomotives will be used for operations in Central Europe and the Balkans, as well as Poland, Germany and the Netherlands.

Cargounit in the coming year will take delivery of 6 Vectrons, which are locomotives with ETCS Baseline 3 and a power output of 6.4 MW AC and 6.0 MW DC.

“The rapid delivery of Vectron MS locomotives allows us to offer carriers new multi-system locomotives, for which we see a growing demand among our existing and new customers in Poland and abroad”, said Cargounit Łukasz Boroń.
