NordWestBahn increases fleet for Bremen S-Bahn

German railway company NordWestBahn will intensify its service on the Bremen S-Bahn network and on the regional routes in Lower Saxony. The operator has ordered 16 Flirt electric trains to be delivered by Stadler Rail. This order is worth around 100 million Euros.

The new four-car trains will start to run in December 2022. Each vehicle has a length of 86.9 metres a total capacity to carry 527 passengers, 260 of them can travel on seats. Every train is equipped with multifunctional areas for transporting up to 30 bicycles, prams, pushchairs or bulky luggage. The units also have power sockets for charging e-bikes. Passengers with reduced mobility will have no problems with these trains due to its full compatibility with PRM TSI requirements. The modern passenger information system and Wi-Fi service are also available to travellers. The trains can speed up to 160 kilometres per hour.

NordWestBahn network

NordWestBahn is a subsidiary of Transdev Group. It mostly serves regional routes in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. Also, the company runs its trains on the Bremen S-Bahn network. This type of service will be extended to the Hanover S-Bahn routes in December 2021. The NordWestBahn order will increase the fleet of Transdev Germany up to 118 Flirt trains from December 2022. Currently, NordWestBahn has 145 trains. The company’s fleet includes 75 Alstom Coradia Lint and 35 Bombardier Talent diesel trains as well as 35 Alstom Coradia electric vehicles.
