RegioJet launches double-deckers on regional route in Slovakia

Source: Wikipedia

RegioJet has become the first operator in Slovakia to use the double-decker trains on the regional non-electrified route. Two five-car double-deckers allow RegioJet to increase the capacity on the popular regional line connecting Bratislava with Dunajská Streda and Komárno.

On Monday, 16 September, the Czech company started to provide improved service on the Bratislava – Dunajská Streda – Komárno line during the morning and evening rush hours. RegioJet’s double-decker trainsets consist of the coaches previously used by DB Regio in the vicinity of Munich and the Eurorunner diesel locomotives produced by Siemens Mobility. The railway company spent six months for authorisation of the coaches and locomotives to be operated on the Slovakian network. In a few days, the double-decker cars will be painted in the RegioJet yellow corporate colour.

Bratislava – Komárno route

RegioJet is providing the PSO train service on the Bratislava – Dunajská Streda – Komárno line since March 2012. Earlier, the route was not popular among the passengers, now it is the busiest single-track railway line in Slovakia. Last year RegioJet carried 3.6 million passengers on this route. The passenger traffic is constantly growing due to the active development of new residential areas in the vicinity of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, and congestions on the roads. The travel time from Bratislava to Komárno, a town located close to the Hungarian border, takes more than two hours. RegioJet provides the train service on the route every hour, with 20-minute intervals during the rush hours.
