Interaction between wheels and rails effect fuel consumption, derailment risk and vehicle stability. An optimal interaction between wheels and rails has a very positive effect on maintenance, reliability, energy savings and sustainability. → View Conference Programme

Yet there is an opposite demand between wheels and tracks and it is of great importance to optimize the interaction. This is particularly crucial when tracks are shared by different types of transportation such as freight, high speed and commuter trains. If ill managed one system will have a bearing on the other system.

Issues like the effect of contamination on wear fatigue and traction, safety improvement, maintenance, lifecycle and replacement costs are dealt with.

The conference will review what is happening between wheels and rails, the interaction, the opposite effects and how to achieve an optimal system.
