TU Delft has appointed Rob Goverde as Full Professor

TU Delft has appointed Rob Goverde as Full Professor of Railway Traffic Operations and Management at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. Goverde will chair the first day of the Intelligent Rail Summit 2017 on Automatic Train Operation at 28 November in Vienna.

Rob Goverde has been active in the field of Railway Operations since 1996 and is an internationally leading expert in the field of railway operations planning and management. Goverde received his PhD from TU Delft in 2005, and has been working at Delft University of Technology as Assistant Professor from 2008 and Associate Professor from 2014.

Since 2011 he has been leading the railway operations group at the department of Transport and Planning after the retirement of Professor Ingo Hansen. He is an internationally highly recognised pioneer and expert in mathematical railway scheduling. His research has a distinct profile that combines a strong mathematical foundation and empirical research to integrated planning and management of railway operations.

New technologies

The core of the scientific research will address improved methods for timetabling, train operations and real-time railway traffic management to optimize railway transportation. The research particularly takes into account opportunities offered by new technologies such as ERTMS and Automatic Train Operation.
