Spanish infrastructure manager Adif will allocate 32,8 million euros for improvements to the electrification system in Catalonia and Aragón. The centre piece of the plans will be a remote control system for the rail disconnectors.

This way, Adif says, disconnectors across the provinces of Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, Huesca and Zaragoza, as well as in parts of Teruel and Tarragona, can be remotely operated. This should speed up operations, especially in cases of an incident. The move should also bolster the functionality and reliability of the electrification system in the area.

Adif will spend the coming six months preparing for the project. Another 9 months is allocated for the necessary approvals process. The execution phase will take some 3,5 years.
