Rail Infra Forum 2022: the link between infrastructure and alternative drives for sustainable trains

For non-electrified lines, battery trains and hydrogen technology can assist in phasing out diesel trains and reduce harmful emissions. At the Rail Infra Forum on 12 & 13 October 2022, the focus will be on the accompanying infrastructure that can facilitate the deployment of zero-emission rolling stock. What is the impact of alternative propulsion in rail, and how can refuelling and recharging infrastructure be achieved efficiently?

New forms of more sustainable rolling stock as alternatives to diesel trains are gaining more and more ground. Trains do not stand alone however, and a surrounding infrastructure for refuelling or recharging needs to be in place. In some cases, partial electrification of a route is a good option. Numerous tests with battery and hydrogen trains have been carried out and the first orders for trains have been placed.

Germany is one of the frontrunners in this field, which is why this edition of the Rail Infra Forum will take place in Berlin. What is required for the implementation of sustainable forms of rolling stock, and what role can retrofit solutions and developing new hydrogen and battery trains play? These are some of the questions that will be discussed. Best practices will be shared, as well as the latest developments from research and the industry across Europe.

The following topics are part of this edition of the Rail Infra Forum:

  • Refuelling and recharging infrastructure
  • Combining infrastructure with other transport modes
  • Hydrogen trains
  • Battery trains
  • The impact of alternative propulsion on the railway system
  • Policy for sustainable alternatives to diesel trains

Do you have an interesting project, case or insight into one of these topics? Submit your abstract before 15 July to apply as a speaker. Feel free to also contact us if you have ideas for subjects or speakers to contribute to the programme.

Railways is one of the two, safest and most energy effective devises. This fact shall not prevent Devise from serving clients in best way! (Railways is a device.)
Accordingly:
1.
Electrification, yes, but a timely.
2.
Track, basics of mode, shall prove robust and resilient, thus safely meeting with any future demand, thus now with “height” for added loads, etc.
(32,5 ton safely allowed axial load, now shall be min., etc.)
