Vossloh will be supplying rail fastening systems for a planned high-speed railway line in northern Egypt. The contract award announced on Monday is valued at more than 40 million euros. First deliveries are planned for this year.

Egypt is fast drawing up and executing plans for major new high-speed railway lines. Vossloh will be delivering rail fastening systems for the line between El Alamein on the Mediterranean Coast and the Red Sea town of Ain Sokhna. A double-track extension is planned from El Alamein to Mersa Matruh, which pushes the total length of the line to some 660 kilometres. Vossloh, through its subsidiary Vossloh Fastening Systems, expects deliveries to the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) to continue through 2024.

Egypt’s high-speed line is designed for speeds of up to 250 kilometres per hour, which will cut travel time in half. The country’s planned high-speed network is forecast to grow to 1,800 in the near term. The estimated price tag is around 19 billion euros.

In September 2021, Siemens Mobility announced a major contract award for the project, as it will not only provide the rail infrastructure, but also high-speed train sets, locomotives and regional trains.
