Adif will be renewing video surveillance systems and access control, as well as install anti-intrusion systems in technical buildings, overpasses and tunnels on the Madrid-Sevilla high-speed railway line as part of ongoing renovation works.

The contact, valued a close to 6 million euros, is one of the stepping stones for not only improving rail service, availability and capacity but eventually also for improved safety and reliability. This, then, should enable Adif to implement the ERTMS level 2 protection system.

Madrid-Sevilla high-speed railway line is the oldest in Spain and has been in operation for close to 30 years. As part of the renovation effort, track circuits have already been overhauled, as well as the signalling and telecommunications installations. On other parts of the line, the rail infrastructure itself has also been refurbished.

In related news, renovation works of the conventional line between Llerena and Fuente del Arco, part of Badajoz province’s Mérida-Los Rosales line, are also underway with the aim of optimising reliability. Parts of existing tracks, sleepers and ballast will be removed and replaced.

On the Abando Indalecio Prieto-Casetas Intermodal line, meanwhile, the electrical substations of Artomaña, Cenicero, Haro, Inoso and Zuazo will be optimised.
