SNCF to introduce digital platform for infrastructure projects
SNCF Réseau, an infrastructure division of SNCF, will introduce a new digital platform for the construction and modernisation works. The solution was developed by Trimble. With its help, the French rail infrastructure manager will facilitate communication between stakeholders and enhance planning activities for ongoing and future projects.
In order to improve communication between planners, designers and construction teams, SNCF Réseau has decided to focus on digitalisation. Therefore, it selected an integrated solution of Trimble Quadri and Trimble Connect, which was developed by US-based IT company Trimble, to serve as the central system within its Enterprise Common Data Environment (CDE). This solution will be implemented for 18 months as the rail infrastructure manager needs to check and test many operations before introducing it for everyday use.
Build and share
The key feature of Trimble’s solution is the opportunity of fast sharing of building information between all the concerned parties. “The combination of Trimble Quadri and Trimble Connect provides an open BIM platform for us to review and manage all assets of the project. This will provide great value both during and after completion of the project, as the model and data collected in project designs and throughout construction will play an increasing role in the investment planning for lifecycle costs for the railway,” Judicaël Dehotin, deputy director of BIM Program at SNCF Réseau, said. For the French rail infrastructure manager, it is a new milestone on the way towards digitalisation of its assets. “Our goal for the long term is to cover all of our digital assets – from design through project completion and ongoing operation and maintenance,” Mr Dehotin specified.
