Kazakhstan Railways improves online ticketing system

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) has improved its online ticketing system. The novelty simplifies the purchase of tickets for passengers and reduces the options for ticket frauds.

The improved ticketing system was launched on 1 July. It has reduced the human factor. “An electronic ticket issued through this system will simultaneously be a fiscal receipt and the basis for boarding and accounting of passengers,” Kazakhstan Railways announced. Also, the upgraded system allows the railway company to reduce the options for frauds with train tickets. Kazakhstan Railways intends to change the ticket sales for the organised groups of passengers.

Ticketing in Kazakhstan

The travellers are able to purchase the train tickets in Kazakhstan on two websites of Kazakhstan Railways: epay.railways.kz and bilet.railways.kz. The first page is available in Russian and Kazakh languages while the second one also has an English edition. The passengers can buy the tickets for the period from 45 days to 1 hour prior to the train departure.

Kazakhstan Railways is operating an online ticketing system since 2009. In 2011 the railway company started to install ticket machines at the train stations. Moreover, the travellers can buy tickets at 233 booking offices of Kazakhstan Railways and at 4500 private booking offices. Last year, Kazakhstan Railways sold around 16.3 million tickets via online sales system.
