What does DB Schenker’s €14bn sale mean for German rail?
Deutsche Bahn (DB) has finalised the sale of its subsidiary DB Schenker to Danish logistics giant DSV for 14.8 billion euros, marking the largest transaction in DB’s history. As part of the German operator’s plans to pull the company out of 34 billion euros of debt, the deal will shore up finances in the short term. However, concerns linger that the sale of one of its most profitable divisions could weaken DB’s broader business model at a time when finances for its rail operations are in dire straits.
