UK relationships after nationalisation: it’s complicated
Nationalisation of Britain’s railways is coming down the tracks. Britain’s new government, formed by the left-wing Labour Party after the 4 July general election, has committed to nationalising the railways in Great Britain. However, the meaning of nationalisation, and the reasons behind the move, are contemporary to the twenty-first century demands on the railway network. This will be very different to the periods of government-directed control experienced over the past century.
