Construction of UK’s longest rail bridge enters last stretch
The UK’s longest railway bridge, part of the HS2 line out of London, is nearly finished. Despite major setbacks – including the last British government abandoning the wider HS2 project – the Colne Valley Viaduct is now more than 90 per cent complete. A key component of the high-speed railway linking Birmingham to the capital, the 1.6 billion pound bridge (€1.89 billion) will stretch more than 3.4 kilometres. That’s longer than 30 football pitches back-to-back.
