UK: future of imperilled Alstom factory buoyed by £60m deal
French train manufacturer Alstom has signed a £60 million (€70 million) contract to refurbish CrossCountry’s Voyager trains at its Derby factory in the UK. The historic site and Britain’s largest train factory had been under threat of closure until recently. Saved by last-minute emergency talks and a sizeable contract with Transport for London earlier this year, the new deal has further bolstered the facility’s future. But the fate of UK rail manufacturing is less certain.
