Iconic Cumbrian viaduct to see £4.5m ‘synthetic timber’ upgrade
Network Rail is investing £4.5 million (€5.24m) to safeguard the Cumbrian coast line against climate change by upgrading Eskmeals viaduct. The work will reportedly double the lifespan of the Victorian structure’s timber beams. However, the new timbers will be made from synthetic wood.
