Renfe marks 30th anniversary of Ave high-speed train with discounts
Renfe kicked off a promotion campaign earlier on Friday to celebrate 30 years of the Ave high-speed train, which first ran on April 21, 1992. The Spanish railway company will offer 100,000 tickets priced at 15 euros this weekend.
The tickets will be valid for the period between July 1 and September 30 and can be used for all Ave destinations.
For the past 30 years, Renfe has moved more than 464 million passengers on its Ave high-speed trains. The company operated 18 trains back in 1992 on a single 471-kilometre line serving five cities.
At present, Renfe’s has 229 Ave trains that call at 57 cities. The high-speed network has been expanded to cover more than 3,726 kilometres. The latest addition to the network is the Galician town of Ourense, which was included in December 2021. Travellers from Madrid can now reach Ourense in 2 hours and 15 minutes, almost 1,5 hour faster than before.
